Saturday morning dawned lovely and my brand spanking new 2008 Commençal Meta 5.5 frame was sitting there glistening in the spring sunshine, however I had different things to do before I may get to grips with building it up. This bike has served me nicely and hopefully Kester will fit the frame to replace his too small hardtail. The experience of my new bike was an absolute revelation to me. Al led the way down ML as I tried to feel out the different journey of the Commençal on a downhill stretch. Luckily my front wheel dropped over the side of the trail but I was capable of fling out an outrigger and save my bike - oh, and myself. After all of the pleasure of the racing, Bo and that i drove back to town the place I dropped him back at house and finally acquired to get to my Commençal build! After figuring out that Al's glasses had been actually missing we decided that we might roll down the Snakecharmer to Missing Link, where we might experience again the best way we came to look for them. I determined that Koru and Lazy Fern can be the gig, as the timber keep you completely out of the wind, so I put the bike on the back of the wagon and set off for Makara Peak.
After watching them roll out (and having a big job wrangling Bo!) we drove behind C Grade across the Eastern Bays earlier than overtaking them and B Grade as we drove to the top of the Wainui Hill. We got to the summit in time to meet up with John's lovely dad and mom and watch him comfortably roll over preserving the entrance of his bunch in sight without losing beneficial energy. Bodhi and that i left her there to promote her wares then went and did some purchasing and had some lunch in a cheap cafe earlier than driving out to Eastbourne to watch the beginning of the primary ever Eastbourne-Wainuiomata PNP race. First, I had to drag my venerable GT out and strip it down. However, the bouncing up and down the highway test proved that already I was coping with a wholly different beast to the GT - I was excited concerning the prospect of giving her a real blast! After trundling up Koru we rode Sally Alley to check out the work the Makara Peak Supporters had put into it final weekend - awesome! Corners which have monged me out for years had been traversed (relatively) elegantly as I realised that I used to be feeling no effects of my concussion for the primary time in weeks.
As all the time I'm very proud to have John represent Roadworks so very properly. I was glad to be going nowhere near Ridgeline - the wind would have made it even more difficult for me than traditional! I'm looking ahead to many many rides on this beautiful machine, and hopefully even growing my ability-set due to owning it. I once gained a hill prime up this hill in the previous Healing Mini-Tour, however the hill seemed virtually greater than I may even trip over now! I thought-about a evening journey but slight concern over the lingering results of my head knock made me suppose it was wiser to attend until daylight. I found it almost not possible to stand, which is freaky - at over 100kg I'm not used to being pushed around! I found that I used to be riding what was for me a scorching pace up the path, and in a cog or two higher than typical. After assembly just a few barely startled people riding up the correct method I parted methods with Alex as SA become Koru, deciding that it was higher if there was solely one in all us going the wrong means on uphill designated tracks. We hit the junction of ML and SA and slowly rode the fallacious approach down the path scanning furiously for the errant shades.
This in no way conveys the ability of the Gutherly Buster! A quick stop on the pylon to drop my forks journey using the TALAS and flicking the ProPedal lever, then we hit Aratihi into the teeth of an impressive gale. I used to be enjoying the bike a lot our authentic plan of simply doing Ridgeline Extension was bypassed by the want to only keep on riding, so we decided to head down Missing Link and up Aratihi to the summit - so much for retaining out of the wind! I was capable of tap it fully out except after i passed a father/son team riding shiny new mtbs. Despite weighing only a hair lower than the GT (13.76kg/30.33lb) it felt so much lighter - it felt like I used to be riding my street bike as compared. I hit Lazy Fern feeling totally at one with my bike, relieved that I felt great on the bike for the primary time in weeks, and fizzing to open up the throttle a bit.
